business center open for foreigner

A business center has opened for foreigners seeking to start a company or looking for investment opportunities here.

Seoul City opened the Yeouido Global Business Center in the financial district, often dubbed Korea’s Wall Street, Thursday.

Located on the third floor of the newly built Seoul International Finance Center, the operation is the second of its kind following the first business center in COEX in southern Seoul.

“We’ll offer counseling and other information to foreign residents wishing to start a company or foreign visitors wanting to find information on investments,” Jang You-hwa, director of the center, said.

Well trained staff will give advice on Korea’s business environment, finance, taxation, real estate, labor, and legal procedures for startups and investment, as well as other tips needed for living in Seoul. The consultation is available in English and Chinese.

“We’ll also regularly hold seminars or lectures on business startups. An online community will be offered on the center’s website where foreigners operating similar businesses can form a network and share information,” Jang said.

The center also operates a civil affairs corner with officials from Yeongdeungpo District Office, so that foreign users can take care of immigration-related affairs without visiting there directly.

Along with the counseling, the center provides free office space for future foreign CEOs. Five people were selected and began working there earlier this month. They can use the office for six months along with office supplies such as computers, phones, and fax machines.

More information about the center is available at the website, global.seoul.go.kr/yeouido, or by calling 02-6137-9830.
